Standing, Left to Right: Sam Peeples, Bill Williams, Martha Nash, Van Greene, Marianna Cato, Thomas Russell, Donald Englebert. YEARLY REPORT Following its election in October, the i954-55 Student Council began an extensive campaign to strengthen its position in student affairs and improve student-faculty relations. The first step in this campaign was, of necessity, the complete reorganization of Student Council records. Our next project was the revision of the Constitution of the Student Government Association. The revised constitution was accepted by an almost unanimous vote of the student body. An official Student Council bulletin board was provided to bring the activities of the Student Council before the faculty and students. ln an effort to further improvement of student-faculty relations a group of ac- cumulated suggestions were exchanged between faculty and students. Also along this line, the previously established custom of a faculty evaluation survey was conducted by the Junior and Senior classes. The annual Student Council Dance was held iust before Christmas at the Pickwick Club with Jerald Scott's Or- chestra providing the music. Delightful entertainment was provided by school talent. The Intramural Sports Program, basketball, softball, and bowling, was expanded to include tennis. The stu- dent memberships are to be changed to the downtown YMCA next year to provide a wider range of facilities for student use. Also, memberships at the YWCA are to be furnished for the Hygienists. i Under the revised constitution the Hygienists were recognized as bonafide members of the Student Govern- ment Association and, as such, their activity fee was raised ta that of the other SGA members. By popular request a new clinic jacket was suggested by the Student Council and accepted by the administration. A standard school ring was adopted by the Council and a contract for four years was signed. By written vote of approval from the Junior and Senior classes, a program was initiated for the purpose of holding the individual responsible for his own cleaning in the lab. A list of rules for the cleaning of the lab was adopted by the Council and posted on the Bulletin Board. Efforts have been made to secure activity cards from the University of Alabama for the SGA members. Field Day was held this year at Green Springs Park where a better soft ball field and, in addition, tennis and golf facilities were available. The second annual Clinic Day was highlighted again by a lecture and a banquet address by Dr. Harry Sicher, world known authority on head and neck anatomy. Page 98
