Get away . . . Gosh! It ' s really great sometimes even if it ' s to ride around or just walk . . . It ' s refreshing . . . As ugly as that smokestack is in the daytime, right now it ' s the most beautiful thing I ' ve ever seen. My roommate was telling me the other day that she knew a girl who while walking to take a test would look at that smokestack and say a prayer . . . God, you gave man the strength to build that stack, and he was suc- cessful. Please give me the strength to take this test and I, too, will be successful . . . It ' s fifteen till . . . better be heading on back. 10

You know . . . actually think some people would be humiliated if they had any idea that someone noticed them lost in their thoughts. They ' re afraid someone would think they were a bit off . . . I ' m sure right now I look like a cold icebox and if anyone were to speak to me I probably wouldn ' t even react. I just want to be alone for a change. Sure, there was a time when I too might have been embarrassed . . . I don ' t care about that anymore. I ' ve got other things to worry about now— problems more serious and challenging than ever before- like myself and what I want . . . what I want to be . . . what I want to do . . . I ' m not becoming so introverted that I am rejecting society, I just want to leave it periodically. It ' s actually a search ... a trial ....
