If advances are being made in the academic status of the University of Alabama, as indeed the following pages and reports of outside study groups would indicate, then perhaps the one man most responsible for this progress is Dr. Alex S. Pow. Dr. Pow, the University of Alabama's Vice-President for Academic Affairs, has dedicated himself to the quest for excellence in higher education. And he has plotted for the University of Alabama a course to follow in that quest. It is but a small acknowledgement of his dedication that: The 1967 Corolla Himself a scholar, holding degrees from three universities -including a Ph.D. from New York University-Dr. Pow has sought to impart his love for knowledge to the entire Uni- versity community. A student of political science, Dr. Pow has distinguished himself-and at the same time won honor and respect for the University-through such positions as membership on the National Core Group for NASA-university relations, The Federal Committee on Education and Social Security, and the U.S. House of Representatives Select Committee on Gov- ernment Research. Dr. Pow is a father, a scholar, a Presbyterian, a Democrat, and a loyal son of his Alma Mater, the University of Alabama. is dedicated to
