Moore is Deon of the Graduate School, Head of the History Department, and Chairman of the Faculty Committee on Ath- letics. Development of graduate work at the University of Ala- bama during the past tv enty-five years has been one of the most significant developments in the history of the insti- tution. Through the Graduate School the University has made a great contribution to education and to cultural and economic development of the State. Graduate study has contributed a great deal of research by the faculty and students concerning economic, social, political, and educa- tional problems in Alabama. During the year ending June 1, 1949, more than 1700 students were enrolled.

Mas- ter ' s graduates have made superior records in pursuit of doctor ' s degree in the foremost grad- uate schools of the country. Master ' s work is being offered in practically oil departments of the College of Arts and Sciences and in all the professional divisions except Lav School.
