And as Pegasus is the symbol of poetry, so too is the University symbolic in its support and teaching of the creative arts. Pegasus was created by Perseus, as it was said that the horse sprung from the body of the Gorgon Medusa when her head was cut off by Perseus. Perseus was a man of strong character and courage.

,,r, .. mu As Pegasus was formed by such a deed the University and in particular its College of Fine and Applied Arts was created in that same vein of courage To slay the evils of ignorance and to build men of strong character Men who fear not the evils of life but instead stand fast to do battle with them The story of Pegasus again runs like that of the University Mounted on the great steed Pegasus the ancient Greek hero Bellerophon slew he fire-breathing monster Chimera and overcame the female warriors, the Amazons. Once these deeds were performed, Pegasus tossed Bellerophon off and rose to the heavens and serv- ed Zeus, the King of the Olympian Gods. Riding strong and undaunted as the mighty warrior, we mount our steed, the University, slay our fears and overcome the problems of education.
