The teachers look to it as a time to relax, recharge, and get caught up, while many of the students have big plans for weekend entertain- ment. LEFT: Les Frazier, the new Chef Tell. LOWER LEFT: Crusin’ in their hot rod LOWER RIGHT: Which movie do we want to see? BOTTOM: Watch out. here comes the security guard. Teresa W.: What are you guys doing here? One of those plans is to go to the mall in Quincy. The mall is a great place to hang out on Friday or Saturday nights. There you can shop, see a movie or walk around just to check out the members of the opposite sex. McDonald’s is the popular place to grab a snack, have a quick food fight, and then go crusin’ along Maine Street or the mall parking lot. Jobs occupy some of the more ambitious UHS students on the weekend. Quincy provides many of the opportunities for the employment of students. Les Frazier, Clay Hamil- ton, Suzy Vest, Beth Hilgenbrinck, Jill Woodruff, and Kathy McMullen chose to work in the mall at York Steak House. And Teresa Woodworth must have a lot of energy to work at Wendy’s attending all the customers from Unity. Weekends may provide time for fun, work, relaxation, and family time, but when school begins again on Monday there’s always the Big Question: WEEKEND? McDonalds HAMBURGER j 1) Bobbie Daughtery, Tamami. Tamami Miyata is a foreign exchange student from Kasukabe Japan. She is 18 years old. She- stayed with Leroy, Betty, Gail and Brent Gronewald. When asked what her favorite class was she replied, “Art”. Pizza and Spa- ghetti are her favorite American foods. Pepsi is her favorite drink. Go- ing out with her friends on the week- ends is her favorite pasttime. She would rather live in Japan. Thats where her family is. While at Unity she was the Christmas Dance queen. She was also active in Art Club and FHA. She made many friends and enjoyed going to the sports activities. We wish her the best of luck back in Japan. 12 - SPECIAL TIMES Betty Brietweiser History Gary Brickman P.E. Woodworth) The 1985-1986 Unity Boys Varisty Basketball Team began the season with five letterman returning from last season’s fine 18 and 8 squad. After losing their first five games and six out of the first eight before Christmas, hopes for the Mustangs fourth straight winning season were rapidly fading. It was at this point in the season when the players came together and began improving in many areas. After close victories over Southeastern and Rushville in early January, the Mustangs gained momentum. Unity at one point in the season won fourteen out of eighteen games and finished the season with victories in fifteen out of their last twenty-one games. The final season record of 15 wins and 11 losses was very gratifying and was the result of fine teamwork, extra effort and the fact that most players played up to their full potential. Let’s do it! The games were close and exciting. The young Mustang’s first game of the season exemplified the season as they came away with a come-from-behind victory over Palmyra. Throughout the season the young Mustangs showed signs of improvement and a strong desire to win. B. Cameron had most field goals, most offensive rebounds, most defensive rebounds, and most charges taken. D. Roberts had most freethrows made and best percentage. J. Howell had most assists. The nine man freshman squad ended the season with 4 wins against 7 losses. J.V. Cheerleaders-Bof omA Schnelle. H. James. C. McClelland. Middle row.P. Woodworth. A. Shriver Top Row: M. Houghton. The Lady Mustangs finished the 1985-86 season with an 11-13 record which ties the second best season mark by a varsity girls basketball team. Despite coming short of some of their goals there was improvement as Unity had several lettermen back from the ’84-’85 squad. The Mustangs im- proved in points scored, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and points allowed. The Mustangs will lose four seniors to graduation who have played an important part in the girls basketball program at Unity. Next year’s team will welcome back four players who have shown a lot of potential, as well as a group of sophomores who had a very fine season in 1985-86. A- The Varsity Mustangs getting psyched up. Now, I look back on my past American life and feel regret at leaving, but also 1 am pleasured at coming here and knowing you. I have learned a lot from you and I do like the U.S.A. and here. Also I have learned more about my country, Japan, than I had. I hope you have learned something from me. In fact, I have told a lot about Japan in my English class. I will have a lot of memories such as homecoming, Halloween, Christmas Dance, my 18th birthday, Prom, and Senior trip. These are experiences that I couldn’t have in Japan. I will go back to Japan with these memories. You will read this after I go back, then I hope you remem- ber me again. I will attend a class of ’86 alumni if I can. Thank you very much, everyone. I hope a lot of you will visit my country, Japan, someday. And if you had an opportunity to visit my country, call or write me. I will go to see you. Never forget me. I won’t forget you and Unity. I hope we can meet someday. Write me. Thank you very much and goodbye. Kelly 104 INDEX - 143 FOND MEMORIES Looking over my shoulder Through the mist on the path of the past I see times that we shared together Times where no dim shadows were cast. Holding each other’s hand We would walk for what seemed like miles Telling each other our secrets Watching each other smile. Those times ended so very long ago And now we’ve grown apart But I’ll never forget our special moments The memories linger on in my heart. Marcy Campbell Our theme this year was pathways. Looking ahead of the path toward the future to come, and looking back on the path we have left behind of all the happy moments and special times we’ve made and shared. The purpose of the yearbook was to capture those memo- ries and help you never to forget them. I would like to thank Mrs. Hyer and Mrs. Kunz, the year- book sponsors, for teaching me so much, for putting up with me, and solving the problems Annual Staff had in putting this yearbook together. I would also like to thank Kim Kunz, assistant editor, and wish her good luck next year as editor. Dana VaLeu Editor 144 - CLOSING
