Every year brings new additions to Unity. This year three new orga- nizations came into being and work was begun on a new section of the high school. The Dance Team performed sev- eral routines at halftime during the basketball season. The teams in- cludes sixteen girls who practiced after school with Miss Dana Spratt. The largest of the three groups, the Pep Club, has 52 members. It’s primary goal has been to improve the Mustang Spirit. One way they achieved this was by sponsoring Spirit Week. This provided activi- ties in which students who wanted to show school spirit could partici- pate. Pep Club is sponsored by Miss Spratt. The third new organization is sponsored by Mr. Brian Paynic. The Weight Club has 24 members, both young men and women. They meet after school to lift weights to improve their physical condition. The fourth new addition is the building onto the middle school that will be part of the new high school. This new addition will house the industrial arts and ag shop and five classrooms. Not only do you have a place to make friends, get a good education, and become active in sports. Unity has all kinds of ac- tivities to provide a little more excitement in our everyday lives. Tractor races, sponsored by FFA, have become a tradition among UHS classes (see pics. 1, 4, 7,8) and the Home Economics classes have a pre-school in the Spring (see pic. 2). While high school students got ready for Homecoming, middle school students had a different program than usual- an aerobics class! (see pics. 3, 9, 16). Assemblies given by Dick Dur- bin and Trooper Jerry Alltop and Socko were the talk of Unity for awhile. All present will remem- ber Mr. Pilat’s scuffle with this trained dog (see pics. 10,11,12). Student Council Week con- cluded with Unity’s version of the Olympics. Two days of fun and competition in games that will never be found under the eternal flame (see pics. 13, 14, 15). It is not an easy job getting ever- ything organized. There are pictures to crop, ads to sell, copy to type, and pictures to take. Without help from a good yearbook staff, it will be an im- possible task. I would like to thank those who sacrificed their time and en- ergy to make this yearbook the best it could be and a special thanks to my Assistant Editor, Jody Reid. I would also like to thank Scott Nozawa who supplied the pictures and Ed Sugden, the yearbook representa- tive, who gave us help and guidance. A big thanks goes to all the people who supported our yearbook through the purchase of advertisements. Most of all I would like to thank Mrs. Hyer and Mrs. Kunz, the year- book sponsors, who put up with all the headaches and problems to help us produce this yearbook. Through their devotion this yearbook is possible. I hope you enjoy your yearbook and I hope it helped to preserve some of your high school memories. ' Donna Shaffer-Editor 144
