From Holland ... Gosse Vollema Gosse Vollema was the foreign exchange student this year from Steenwijk, Holland. He arrived on August 8, 1980 to stay with Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Morley, Lori and Alan. He wanted to come to America for a “change” and something else to do. He saw many differences between U.S. schools and Dutch schools. Here the schedule is the same from day to day. But, in Holland, classes switch from day to day. Every Monday has the same classes, Tuesday has different classes, and so forth. Also sports are not associated with the school. They are clubs outside of school. He also noted, that teachers in the U.S. have more “power” over the students than in Holland. While at Unity, he was on the football team as kicker, and was named All Conference Kicker. He was on the Sadie Haw- kins court and was named king. When asked about future plans, he said he would like to attend a University in America if possible, after finishing high school in two years. One dream of his, would be to become a professional football or soccer player. Gosse left in August, 1981. While here he was liked by all. 1. Gosse around Unity. 2. Gosse on the football team as a kicker. 3. Gosse as King of the Sadie Hawkins dance. 16 — SENIORS
