I he development of a student's jazz background is a twofold process. It involves an historical view of the progressive style of the jazz idiom through concert attendance, recordings, and live performances. It also includes the personal accomplishment of developing the performance skills needed to successfully produce all of the idiosyncratic elements and subtle nuances involved in performing a jazz arrangement. The program tries to broaden a student's self-image and independence while working within a structured organization. The group’s performance agenda will include competitive performances at High School Jazz Band Festivals including the festivals held at Western Illinois University and Northwestern High School. I he Jazz Band keeps active throughout the school year performing in school concerts and assemblies and in other community events. Left to Right: J. Tieken. J. Sill. R. Leenerts. A. Schwartz. A. FRESHMAN BASKETBALL The 1977-78 Freshman Basketball Team compiled a 2-6 season record including a 7th place tournament finish; however, the team’s record does not reflect this team’s true accomplishment. The 1977-78 Freshman Team is well advanced toward a goal which most teams strive for, but few really achieve. That goal is to play the game with intensity while not compromising good sportsmanship or good fellow- ship. Mexico, and stayed with the Hoffmans, the Paynes and the Hilgenbrincks. When asked one major reason she came to the United States, her reply was to learn English and to make friends. She liked the school and the peo- ple in it very much and will miss them a great deal when she leaves. She will return in June to her family and in the fall will go to col- lege. majoring in architecture. 96 9 EIGHTH GRADE Jim Altcnhcin Korina Arnold Dale Asher Jeri Barnett Kris Bartlett Sherry Bertelsman Denise Bevenour Max Blanchett Nanet Blickhan Kelley Britton Curt Cannell Dorothy Cantrell Colleen Carlson Penny Carlson Shawn Carolan Duane Crabtree Tom Davis Teresa Deming Danny Donley Bobby Ellerman Michele Ellis Josie Ensminger 98 Rick Ensminger Cheryl Fanning Sharon Fee Billy Flint David Fregeau Donna Fryrear Dawn Goehl Becky Griffin Amy Gronewold Tim Guthrie Donna Householder Michael Hodges Danny Homan (No Picture) Patty Hendrickson Edwin Janssen Roger King Mark Kleemeyer Therese Klodt 99 Brenda Koch Shelly Laymon Rick Leebold Roger Leenerts Tim Logan Glen Lubbe TroyMcCleary Chris McClelland Kevin McClelland Chris McLean Lori Miller Sharilyn Minor Alan Morley Beth Morton Cammie Neff AlanNiekamp Brad Miller Kevin Miller Danny Palmer Danny Payne Brenda Porter Nancy Orr 100 Michele Rogers Jeff Rosson Steve Schaffer Carol Schaffer % Brian Shank Susie Smith Helen Spark' TammieStille Daryl Stoll Kevin Stratton John Thornton Stacie Tieken Alberta Lee Utterback (No Picture) Sarah Vest Cheryl Vonderheide Teresa Walton Carla Warning Alicia Wietnauer Eric Whipps 101 Angie Whittaker Brenda Wiley John WtxxJworth Bethanne Voung SEVENTH Karen Asher I.one Arnsman Robert Baker I Danny Blickhan % Mary Bottorff Kelly Caley Melissa Carolan Kenny Cook Randy Cook Ricky Corrigan Tony Corrigan Debbie Duncan Tina Crabtree Robert Duncan Lisa Finlay Terri Duffy Mike Finlay 102 GRADE Tim Foster Ricky Goertz 4 I im Harms Chris Hildebrand Letha Janssen Ronald Gooding Connie Harness Tim Hilgenbrinck Terry Jenkins Viola Gooding Marianne Hemming Craig Homan Jamie Kendrick Michelle Girardin Donna Haistings Mike Hibbert Gary Kinman 103 SEVENTH 1 V Ronda Kinman i Jeff Mayfield Leslie Moore Craig Knapp Shawn Lewis Julie Mefford Jeff Miller Lisa Murfin Keith Morris Amy McMullen Mary Mittermeyer Brenda Myers Mark Neil John Ohnemus Cindy Poling Quint Penn Rick Olson Brian Price 104 Julie Pasne GRADE Deana Price Jennifer Redington Kermit Reiter Sherry Shupe Scott Trent Andrea Whittaker Doug Seibers Marie Utterback Courtney West Bryon Winfield Amy Spath Cathy Vonderheidc Jeff Whitaker Mark Wollbrink David Stark Terri Whitmer 105 M.S.
