1969 CLASS HISTORY They called us a Freshman class-a class of “greenies”-when we entered good ole Unity High in August of 1965. To calm the members of class were Mr. Licocci and Mrs. Beck, our class sponsors. The following officers were elected: Pres. Brent Voth, V.-Pres. Stan Schwartz, Sec.-Treas. Sharon Smith, Sarg. at Arms Alan Cornwell, S. C. Rep. Beverly Shriver. To help cheer our Freshman basketball players, four cheerleaders were selected: Sherry Egan, Rita Rhine, Debbie Nichols and Brenda Voth. In sports, 15 Freshman boys participated in football, 11 in basketball, 4 in baseball, and 6 in track. Brent Voth joined the Lettermen’s Club. Brent Voth represented our class at the Sweetheart Dance. The theme of our first Homecoming was “Holidays” and our float por- trayed Memorial Day. We held a roller skating party for our money-making project. Sharon Jenkins, Beverly Dedert, and Stan Schwartz joined the Annual Staff. The school came to life again as 79 Sophomores poured through the doors of Unity High School in 1966. Our class officers were: Pres. Greg Gilliland, V.-Pres. Brent Voth, Sec.-Treas. Theresa Stockhecke, Sarg. at Arms Gene Oenning, S. C. Rep. Rita Rhine. The sponsors were Mr. Licocci and Mr. Flynn. Brenda Voth was elected a Varsity cheerleader. The theme of Homecoming was “Song Titles” and our float was entitled “Wipe-Out”. We sponsored the Basketball Sweetheart Dance; Carolyn Walbring and Brent Voth represented us. In Sports, There were 6 Sophomore boys in football, 2 in basketball, 6 in baseball, and 6 in track. Allyn Conover and Bill Irvin joined the Lettermen’s Club. Our class was proud to be part of Unity High when the Mustangs took 3rd place at the Annual Mississippi Valley Tourna- ment and the Cheerleaders won the 1st place trophy. During the year, Shirley Mittelberg joined the Annual staff to fill a vacancy and Brad Doyle became an apprentice photographer. Sharon Jenkins was a guest of the U. S. Navy Band. Brad Doyle participated in the All-District Band and Jane Hagemeister the All-District Chorus at Macomb. Brent Voth received 3rd place in the Section 13 Land Judging Contest of FFA. Stan Schwartz won an Extemporaneous Public Speaking Ward from the same group. At the Junior-Senior Prom, Alan Miller, Brent Voth, De- anna Harness, Philip Noel, Shirley Mittelberg, Sharon Smith, Stan Schwartz, and Beverly Parrack, dressed as Ha- waiians, helped serve. Sharon Smith and her sister, Shirley, received 2nd place at the District Science Fair. Beverly Dedert and Peggy Dittmer gained a first at the District and a second at the State Science Fair. Our class was becoming more and more active as the years passed on. Only 71 Juniors returned to UHS in Au- gust of 1967. However, this group was overflowing with en- ergy and excitement. To control this energy were Mr. Arnold and Mr. Cordis, our sponsors. We chose for our class officers: Pres. Stan Schwartz, V.-Pres. Rita Rhine, Sec. Beverly Parrack, Treas. Shirley Mittelberg, S. C. Rep. Jane Hagemeister, Reporter Brenda Voth. To cheer the Mustangs to victory, Sherry Egan, Debbie Nichols, and Brenda Voth helped the Cheerleading Squad. The theme for Homecoming was “Broadway Plays” and our float entitled “Barefoot in the Park” won 2nd place. Junior Attendants in the Homecoming Court were: Patty Frazier, Brenda Voth, and Debbie Nichols.'Mary Jo Schoch repre- sented our class at the Basketball Sweetheart Dance. That fall we received our class rings. Stan Schwartz received the State Farmer Degree; Jane Hagemeister the Typing I award; Mary Jo Schoch, the Book- keeping Award. Our class was proud to be a part of Unity’s first musical “Brigadoon”. The Junior-Senior Prom was held at Holiday Inn. The theme “Gone with the Wind” provided a beautiful setting— especially the wishing well. Sharon Smith, Sharon Jenkins, Rita Rhine, Shirley Mittelberg, Bruce Cramm. Bard Blick- han, Allyn Conover, Kathleen Koetters, Sherrie Rabe, Mary Jo Schoch, and Kathy Knorr were the entertainers at the Prom.
