Class History 30 It could be told that the class of 1968 was an active bunch when all 87 of us bounded into good ole Unity High in August of 1964. To herd our roaring freshman class were Mr. Bishop and Mr. Brightwell as class sponsors. To help rule our active class, the following officers were elected: Pres. B. Sellers, V.-P. J. Daugherty, Sec. L. Schnelle, Treas. B. Bastert. Rep. Janet Tallcott. Serg. at Arms C. Miller, Stud. Coun. M. Brecht. To help cheer our brave freshman basketball players, we elected four robust cheerleaders. They were L. Schnelle, V. Egan, C. Klauser, and S. Smith. Nineteen freshmen boys participated in football, only 2 in baseball and 7 were on the track team. S. Smith repre- sented the freshman class at the Sweetheart Dance. The theme of our first homecoming was “Current Events of 1964.” Our float portrayed the Alaskan Earthquake. Our roller skating party was our only money making project for the year. R. Mealiff, Janet Tallcott, and P. Guthrie were selected to join the Annual Staff. J. Ennen and S. Smith were the only freshmen participating in plays during the year. Our class was becoming more and more active as the year passed on. Only 83 silly sophomores managed to come charging back to Unity in 1965. Our student leaders were: Pres. J. Daugherty, V.-P. R. Terry, Sec. J. Ennen, Treas. K. Crow, Rep. J. Rabe, Stud. Coun. R. Clair. Serg. at Arms G. Starman. The sponsors for our class were Mr. Brightwell and Mr. Roper. L. Schnelle, S. Smith, and R. Terry were elected Varsity cheerleaders. Our homecoming float “Halloween”, placed first in the competition. We sponsored the Basketball Sweetheart Dance and S. Smith represented us. She was also FFA Sweetheart. In sports, there were 13 sophomore boys in football, 6 played baseball, 6 participated in basketball, and five were on the track team. A. Schenkel won the Spanish Award. We ordered our class rings for the coming year. The sophomores were proud to be attending U.H.S. when the first Mississippi Valley Tournament was held. UNITY ZINKS HAMILTON
