HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1966 Ninety-two frightened freshmen entered the doors of Unity High School in August of 1962. With the help of Mr. Richard Isett and Mr. Donald Miller, we chose Dean Herring, President; Danny Mittelberg, Vice President; Janice McCune, Secretary; and Kassie Belden, Student Council Representative. Karen Dornink, Judy Gooding, Judy Lentz, and Judy Schafer were chosen to cheer our freshman team to victory. This team became champions at the Central Freshman Basketball Tournament at Camp Point. For the Homecoming float we chose Hawaiian Punch as our theme to coincide with the overall theme of TV com- mercials. Elected to the annual staff were Elaine Beverly, Mary Steiner, and Ted Sel- lers. At the annual staff dance Mike Crouch was king April fool, and he chose Judy Lentz as his April shower. The Dramatics Club play Off the Track included Phil Schmeideskamp in the cast. During this year the new addition to the schoolwas dedicated. In the fall of 1963, eighty-six silly sophomores came skipping into Unity for their second year of high school life. Under the leadership of Miss Phyllis Harris and Mr. Frank Hedrick, the following officers were elected: Mike Crouch, President; Gary Nie- kamp. Vice President; Glenna Starman, Secretary; Rodney Frazier, Treasurer; Mary Stockhecke, Reporter; and Kate Leeper, Student Council Representative. Dorothy Schafer represented our class as varsity cheerleader. Peter Pan , portrayed by Carl Koontz, was the choice for our Homecoming float which won a co-second place. King Twerp, Gary Niekamp, chose Kate Leeper as his queen for the annual staff dance. We were represented in two Dramatics Club plays that year. Meet Me at the Prom included Greg Parrack and Phil Schmiedeskamp; Seventeen is Terrific featured Glenna Starman, John Bastert, and Lucinda Wollbrink. Judy Barnett and Becky Hull won a first place trophy at the Science Fair while Lucinda Wollbrink and Sandra Daugherty earned a second place plaque. Mike Crouch received a third place award, while Ray Elston won a first place trophy at the District Science Fair and a third at the State Science Fair. Phyllis Detrick won the Spanish Award. The break-in of the school occurred during this year. In November of this year, two of our members, Karen Dornink and Debra Jost, were killed in an automobile accident.
