History of the Class of 1965 In August of 1961, 105 bold and confident Freshmen came from the surrounding towns to enter Unity High. Under the leadership of Mrs. Duke and Mr. Underwood, we began to func- tion as a class. We elected Garth Baecker, Pres.; Dean Andrew, V. Pres.; Christy Arnold, Sec.; Lyle Cornwell, Treas.; and Randy Allen, S.C. Rep. The Student Council honored us with a get-acquainted dance. Linda Bastert, Sebby Davis, Barb Knox, and Linda Venvertloh were elected cheerleaders of our freshman basketball team. During the year in sports, we had eleven football, nine basketball, two track, and one baseball members. Kenny Althoff, John Duppong, Wanda Rowbotham, and Linda Snider were chosen to represent us on the An- nual Staff. Brad Knox and Linda Thompson were elected King Clem and Daisy June at the Kaddiddlehopper Hop. Our homecoming float, This is Worth Fighting For , took second place in the parade. Our money-making project for the year was a skating party. Ninety-eight Sophomores re- turned in the fall of 1962, ready to be- gin their second year. Our President was Lyle Cornwell; Vice-President, Brad Knox; Secretary, Carol Vogel; Treasurer, Gay Belden; and Student Council Representative, Linda Ven- vertloh. Our varsity cheerleaders were Linda Bastert, Sebby Davis, and Linda Venvertloh. Our homecoming float was Unity All-stars . We spon- sored the Basketball Sweetheart Dance with our candidate, Linda Venvertloh, as queen. At the spring FFA banquet, Sebby Davis was crowned sweetheart. At the Culver-Stockton science fair, Marlene Kuntz and Wanda Rowbotham won first place in math and Randy Al- len and Lloyd Tucker won a third in biology. At the district fair, Linda Bastert, Linda Venvertloh, and Roger Smith won firsts with Roger going on to win first at State. At the Annual '• j m- Staff April Fool Dance, Kenny Althoff and Bobette Bryant represented our class. Randy Allen, Linda Grimes, Jerri Shupe, and Lloyd Tucker parti- cipated in the play, Executive Strike . Patti Tieken won the Spanish award. 1961-1962 Ninety-two Juniors rambled in the doors for the year 1963. Our class officers were: Randy Allen, Pres.; Steve Duke, V. Pres.; Joyce Presser, Sec.; Barb Knox, Treas.; Sebby Davis, S. C. Rep.; Gay Belden, Reporter; and Rich Mealiff and Mike Wendling, Sgts. -at- arms. The varsity cheerleaders from our class were Linda Bastert, Patti Tieken, and Linda Venvertloh. Our homecoming float, Snow White , won first place, with Barb Knox, Joyce Presser, and Linda Venvertloh in the queen's court. We set an All-time High in magazine sales. We also received our long awaited class rings that represented our class at the Twirp Dance sponsored by the Annual Staff. Pat Winget was crowned queen at the Sophomores' Basketball Sweetheart Dance. The cast of Meet Me at the Prom included the following Juniors: Randy Allen, Bobette Bryant, Sebby Davis, Linda Grimes, Barb Knox, Sharon Nichols, Joyce Presser, Connie Schumacker, and Lloyd Tucker. Seventeen is Terrific included Dean Andrew and Lloyd Tucker. Jerri Shupe was the assistant director of both plays. Pat Winget was chosen FFA Sweetheart at the spring banquet. 1962-1963 vf 4 26 fall.
