The following people were chosen to go to summer camps: Girls’ State: Sandra Zengel, Alternate, Carolyn Goehl; Conservation Camp: Mary Barnett, Alternate, Debbie Schwartz; Ursa Lion Club: Connie Allen, Alternate, Sandra Sickles; Boys’ State: Gary Frazier, Alternate, Ross Peter; Ursa Lion Club: Gary Shaffer, Alternate, Gary Brickman; Mendon Lion Club: Mack Groce, Alternate, Dennis Halsey. Connie Allen received the Type I award and Vicki Price was honored with the Bookkeeping award. For our final year at Unity, we chose the following people to lead us: President, Jim Upchurch; Vice President, Dennis Halsey; Secretary, Artie Hermsmeier; Treasurer, Shirley Manlove; Student Council Repre- sentative, Vicki Price; Reporter, Bonnie Ward. Mr. Schopp completed his fourth year as sponsor for our class, and Mrs. Olson ended her third year. Sharon Bastert added the fourth bar to her cheerleading letter. Carol Corrigan was our Homecoming Queen. Her Senior attendants were Sandra Sickles, Pat Frese, and Ruth Conover. Our float, “Dumbo”, received second place in the parade. Marvin Rutledge was elected Basketball King in February. He escorted Pat Frese. Jim Upchurch was our Candidate for King Twirp at the Annual Staff Dance. Debbie Schwartz was his Lady Fair. The Junior class gave us a very exciting prom on May 8 at the Holiday Inn in Quincy. The Blue Knights provided the music. “Moonlight and Roses” was the theme. For our last activity as members of Unity High School, we had a picnic at Siloam Springs on May 22. In the evening, we were treated to dinner at the Flamingo in Quincy. Following dinner, we held a dance in the high school auditorium for the Seniors and their dates. Baccalaureate was held on Sunday, May 24. Commencement exercises were on May 28. CLASS COLORS: Yellow and Silver CLASS FLOWER: Yellow Rose CLASS MOTTO: “Not for ourselves, but for all.” 23
