History of the Class of 1964 In August of 1960, seventy-four students from Ursa, Lima, Fowler, Loraine, and Mendon entered Unity High for the first time. At our first class meeting, we elected the following officers: President, Dennis Halsey; Vice President, Ross Peter; Secretary, Carol Corrigan; Treasurer, Ruth Conover; Student Council Representative, Ted Clair. Mr. Ronald Schopp was our sponsor. Sandra Sickles, Ruth Conover, Pat Frese, and Sharon Bastert were elected to serve as Junior Varsity cheerleaders. In October, we tried our luck at float building. The resulting theme was “South Pacific” with Deanna Stanbridge and Cheryl Tripp riding the float to represent the native girls. In order to make money, we held a skating party at Scotties Roller Rink in Quincy. Sharon Bastert represented the Freshman class at the Basketball Sweetheart Dance in February. The Annual Staff and Camera Club sponsored a Fed-Reb Dance in April. Sharon Bastert was our candidate for “Miss Dixie” with Dennis Halsey as her escort. Sixty-nine Silly Sophomores entered Unity in the fall of 1961. The following boys were elected class officers: President, Ted Clair; Vice President, Artie Hermsmeier; Secretary, Jim Upchurch; Treasurer, Mack Groce; Student Council Representative, Allen Shriver. Mrs. Loraine Olson joined Mr. Schopp in sponsoring the class. Sharon Bastert and Carolyn Goehl were our representatives on the Varsity cheerleading squad. In the Homecoming parade, Carol Corrigan, Sandra Sickle's, and Bonnie Ward rode our float, “Give Me One Dozen Roses.” The Camera Club and Annual Staff sponsored a dance in April. Gary Frazier was our candi- date for Clem Kaddidlehopper. He chose Bonnie Ward as his Daisy June. Our 1962-63 class officers were: President, Ross Peter; Vice President, Jim Upchurch; Secretary, Sandra Sickles; Treasurer, Ruth Conover; Student Council Representative, Connie Allen. “Just A Little Bit Better” helped our Homecoming float to second place. Pat Frese, Sharon Bastert, and Carol Corrigan were Junior attendants to the Homecoming Queen. Our Junior money-making project was the annual magazine drive. Our top three salesmen were Gary Frazier, Sharon Bastert, and Gary Brickman. Dick Ellerman was elected Basketball King in February. He escorted Sharon Bastert. Jack Curry was our candidate for April Fool at the Annual Staff Dance in April. He chose Debbie Schwartz as his April Queen candidate. In May we gave the Senior class a prom at the Elk’s Club in Quincy. Junior Musolino’s Band provided the music for our theme, “Moon River.” The Unity High Sextet sang the theme songforour guests. Four Junior girls were members of this group: Sharon Bastert, Cheryl Dedert, Patti Korves, and Bonnie Ward. Sharon Bastert was our Junior representative on the Varsity cheerleading squad. 22
