August 31, 1959 marked the beginning of the twelfth year for Com- munity Unit District No. 4. The personnel of the 7-member Board of Education has completely changed during these years; but school attorney William Dieterich of Quincy and Superintendent Earl Hudson of Mendon have been employed by the Unit during the entire twelve years. Arthur Kuntz, who farms near Ursa, is a seven-year member of the Board and has been its president for the last four years. Maurice Con- over, who is the Board's secretary, is serving his fifth year. Mr. Conover farms near Lima. Clarence Simon, farmer of Fowler, is a six- year member. Four-year members of the Board are Russell Shriver, Ursa farmer, and James Upchurch, Mendon, an electrician for Gardner- Denver. Carlton Myers who lives in Mendon and manages an Experi- mental Farm for Moorman's came to the Board of 1957-58. Harold Robertson, farmer of Loraine, was elected to the Board the same year. The Board meets regularly the third Friday in each month. How- ever, numerous extra meetings have been held. These men have devoted many hours to the tremendous responsibilities involved in School Board Membership. They have met their challenge to chart the course of education within this district and helped educators in keeping to the course of providing a good educational system for Unit 4. The efforts and accomplishments of the present board and all preceding members are greatly appreciated by the school personnel. 3

EARL HUDSON Supe rintendent B.S., W.I.U., M.S-i U. of I. Some dozen years ago Community Unit District No. 4 was formed and a new name Unity was chosen for the high school. During that time many boys and girls have been given an opportunity for an education that has provided each individual an opportunity to continue satisfactory adjustments in life. I have been privileged to act as Superintendent of this Unit during these formative years of Unity High School and will continue to appreciate its further growth and development. The building facilities are well under way toward great improvement and your educational program will surely continue to improve under new leadership. It has been a rich and rewarding experience to serve as your Superintendent. I am indebted to both the teachers and the student body for their understanding and support.
