History Judith Evans, Lois Steiner, Lanny Burke In August 1955, 75 spellbound FRESHMEN came from Ursa, Mendon, Lima, Fowler, Loraine, and Meyer to enter Unity High. Under the leadership of Mrs. Geraldine Spears, our sponsor, the class got off to a flying start. We elected Grant Baecker, president; Maureen Caley, vice-president Sondra Baker, secretary- treasurer; Nancy Daugherty, SC representative; Judy Warning, reporter. The Student Council (SC) was host to a party given in our honor. Nancy Dougherty, Maureen Caley, Judy Warning and Judith Evans were elected cheerleaders for the freshman basketball team, and the team won 2nd place In the Freshman Tourna- ment at Central. Max Koontz and Nancy Daugherty were candidates for Robin Hood and Maid Marian at the Sherwood Shuffle. The theme of our Homecoming float was 'I'm in the Jail House Now.' Larry Cornwell and Maureen Caley were our representatives at the Valentine Ball. Sandra Holtman and Karen Muegge were candidates for FFA Sweetheart. Our money- making project was a skating party in April. Seventy-two SOPHOMORES with Mr. Underwood as our sponsor, started out 1956 in a very merry man- ner. Our president was Max Koontz; vice-president, Lois Steiner; secretary-treasurer, Sandra Holtman; SC representative, Larry Cornwell; reporter, Barbara Em- mert. In the fall we had a hayrack party in which everyone joined for a 'dust bath.' Our float, 'No Substitute for Victory,' won second prize at the Home- coming parade. The class designated a day. Silly Sophomore Day when all members were ridiculously clad to advertise our skating party. Nancy Daugherty was elected Varsity cheerleader. Sandra Holtman was a candidate for FFA Sweetheart. Jerry Houdyshell and Judith Evans represented our class at the Banana Boat Bounce. Fifty-nine JUNIORS rambled in the doors for the year 1957. Our officers were: Jerry Houdyshell, presi- dent; Nancy Dedert, vice-president; Mary Ellen Carolan, secretary; Wayne Myers, treasurer; Barbara Emmert, SC representative,- and Kathleen Duncan, reporter. Mrs. Zenith Wood assisted in sponsoring the class. The Varsity cheerleaders from our class were Judy Warning and Nancy Daugherty. Our Homecoming float, 'Gold Mine in the Sky,' won first place. The junior attendants to the queen were Lois Steiner, Nancy Daugherty, and Maureen Caley. The highest salesman for'the Junior Magazine Drive was Karen Muegge. The Junior Play, 'Take It Easy,' was a smash hit. We also sponsored a Christmas dance, 'Snowflake Serenade,' that year. Leigh Conover and Nancy Daugherty were Mr. and Mrs. S-P-Y at the S-P-Y dance. Mary Ellen Carolan was chosen representative for Girls' State and Larry Cornwell, Daryl Priepot, and Grant Baecker went to Boys' State. Kathleen Duncan and Nancy Dedert were delegates to Conservation Camp. Grant Baecker and Judith Evans received the Citizenship Award on Class Night. Our Prom was the utmost in entertainment. The Juniors, Seniors, Faculty, and Board members and their wives were guests at a banquet and dance in the Flamingo Room. Fifty-five SENIORS came back realizing that this would be their last year at 'DEAR OLD UNITY HIGH.' Larry Beverly was elected president with Gary Hem- ming, vice-president; Sue Wear, secretary; Butch Brady, treasurer; Leigh Conover, SC representative; and LaVern Shaffer, reporter. Our money-raising activities were a Valentine Dance and the Senior Play, 'It's a Great Life.' Our Homecoming float again won first place. It was called 'Fantasia.' Co-captains Cornwell and Baecker crowned our Homecoming Queen, Maureen Caley. Seniors in the Queen's Court were Nancy Daugherty, Barbara Emmert, and Lois Steiner. Nancy Daugherty and Maureen Caley were Varsity cheer- leaders. The senior candidates. Bob Lubker and Sharon Woodworth were chosen Mr. and Mrs. S-P-Y at the S-P-Y dance. Karen Muegge was selected as Miss Courtesy, Nancy Daugherty was elected Basketball Sweetheart and Bob Lubker was the King. The Senior attendants were Maureen Caley and Barbara Emmert. The Junior-Senior Prom was held May 2 at the Spring Lake Country Club. The chosen King and Queen were LaVern Shaffer and Kathleen Duncan. Our trip to the Ozarks was something we had looked forward to for the past four years. Our dream finally came true on May 26-27 when all who were graduated enjoyed two days of fun-filled play.
