AGRICULTURE The Unity chapter of the Future Farmers of America was made up of 74 members carrying about 120 productive projects. Officers of the organization were: President George Evans, Vice-President Ronald Cramm; Treasurer Lavern Shaffer; Secretary Dean Woodruff; Reporter Bob Porter; Sentinel Bub Lubker, SS Representative John Hendrickson. Much work and many activities claimed the boys’ time. Some of the more important accomplish- ments were as follows: 13 boys exhibited 60 head of livestock at the Sec. 13 Livestock show, 22 boys exhibited grain from their projects, the livestock judging team was a blue ribbon team in the state con- test, five boys attended the American Royal Livestock show at Kansas City. Our chapter was host to the Sec. 13 livestock judging contest and the Junior and Senior boys participated in the Adams County Farm Bureau-FFA Get-Acquainted Program. Activities sponsored included the concessions at the Adams County Junior Livestock sale, a donkey baseball game, FFA-FHA dance, and this year, for the first time, the mothers, as well as the dads were invited to the annual banquet. As in years past the farm shop was well utilized. Many boys constructed individual shop projects as well as projects for farmers of the area. Our shop classes constructed seven picnic tables for the Ursa Lions Club to be placed in the new park at Meyer. The highlight of the year was Lavern Shaffer being a successful candidate for the State Farmer FFA Degree which will be awarded at Springfield on the night of June 12.
