The purpose of the Student Senate is to promote among students of Unity High School, a knowledge and interest in good government; to encourage students to accept and dis- charge their responsibilities to themselves and to their school; to stimulate a spirit of cooperation among the students and faculty, and to aid in the development of loyal, constructive school spirit. During the school year 1952-53, we have held meetings every Wednesday, alter- nating periods. It is in these meetings that the Student Senate members debate their ideas for school improvement and present the gripes and or suggestions of their con- stituents. Here, too, we planned many of the programs, such as the eight assembly programs costing on an average of thirty-five dollars each; numerous films; and assumed responsibility of the Homecoming Parade, concessions and dance. In addition, we sponsored one other dance in the gym. All profits made by the Senate are spent to promote school programs and student benefits. Members of the Student Senate and the positions they hold are: Joe Conover, president; John Ippensen, Vice president; Dolores Campbell, Secretary; Maxine Voth, Treasurer; Representatives; Donna Muegge, Faye Hermsmeier, Janis Houdyshell, Carole Forest, Marlene Henethoff, Ronald Frazier, Boots Hufendick, Eunice Flesner, Barbara Grimmer, Shirley Brown, John Code, Harry Beeler, Pat McAllister, Mary Ann VaLeu, Donna Schroeder, Sylvia Holtman, Connie Merker.
