Jl o me coming Q ueen MARLENE HENERHOFF, Homecoming Queen The purpose of the Student Senate is to promote among students of Unity High School, a knowledge and interest in good government; to encourage students to accept and dis- charge their responsibilities to themselves and to their school; to stimulate a spirit of cooperation among the students and faculty, and to aid in the development of loyal, constructive school spirit. During the school year 1952-53, we have held meetings every Wednesday, alter- nating periods. It is in these meetings that the Student Senate members debate their ideas for school improvement and present the gripes and or suggestions of their con- stituents. Here, too, we planned many of the programs, such as the eight assembly programs costing on an average of thirty-five dollars each; numerous films; and assumed responsibility of the Homecoming Parade, concessions and dance. In addition, we sponsored one other dance in the gym. All profits made by the Senate are spent to promote school programs and student benefits. Members of the Student Senate and the positions they hold are: Joe Conover, president; John Ippensen, Vice president; Dolores Campbell, Secretary; Maxine Voth, Treasurer; Representatives; Donna Muegge, Faye Hermsmeier, Janis Houdyshell, Carole Forest, Marlene Henethoff, Ronald Frazier, Boots Hufendick, Eunice Flesner, Barbara Grimmer, Shirley Brown, John Code, Harry Beeler, Pat McAllister, Mary Ann VaLeu, Donna Schroeder, Sylvia Holtman, Connie Merker. In addition to the many activities of the school, the band played host to the District Music Contest which was held in the spring. The band participated in the contest, helped organize it, and aided with the many chores connected with a music contest. The band played for football games, basketball games. They marched in the annual Western College Homecoming parade and played in the joint twilight concert with the college band on the lawn of the campus. This year the band put in a lot of time playing some of the heavier symphonic type of music. Students spent time after school in sectional rehearsals which aided in making the Unity band a better organization. OFFICERS: President, Joe Conover; Vice P. The Future Farmers of America of Unity High School with sixty-seven members is one of the larger chapters of this part of the State. Representatives of Unity FFA not only are outstanding in their local livestock and crop production projects, but have thetr ability recognized in outside activities. This year fifteen members exhibited livestock at their sectional FFA Fair at Mt. Sterling. Seventeen showed their grain projects at Milton. Over seventy-five percent of these exhibits were graded outstanding in quality. Teams in State judging Competition in Livestock, Dairy, Poultry and Grain were rated A, A, A and B respectively. We had the first and second winners in high corn yields in this section. In the five-county area, four of the Unity members were in the first ten. Also, in Soil Judging, our team was first with high individual in this section. In an Economy of Producing Pork Contest which our chapter sponsored, the $100 award was won by Ted Colvin who managed and operated the project. Officers are elected each semester and were as follows: President: Carl Rabe, Fred Tieken; Vice Pres: Gene Inman; Sec'y: Raymond Woodworth. The Mustangs played eleven scheduled games, winning three, tieing one, and losing eight. The inexperienced Mustangs, lacked the drive and smooth teamwork that is normally sparked by a few experienced players. It was a fair year; we didn't win them ail but we had the spirit that will always be found in a Unity High team.
