Thanks again The Student Body eered or chapero adviser' irive per ported Unity Christion m any way Th( memorable one It might nor hove been you much 180 Closing I Packing up the dreams God planted In the fertile soil of you; Can’t believe the hopes he’s granted Means a chapter in your life is through. But we’ll keep you close as always; It won’t even seem you’ve gone, ‘Cause our hearts in big and small ways Will keep the love that Keeps us strong. And friends are friends If the Lord’s the Lord of them. And a friend will not say “never” ‘Cause the welcome will not end. Though it’s hard to let you go, In the Father’s hand we know That a lifetime’s not too long to live as friends. With the faith and the love God’s given Springing from the hope we know. We will pray the joy you’ll live in Is the strength that now you show. Friends 161 Dear Class of '85, As you groduore from Unity, I am reminded of your class verse, Joshua 1:9 Yes. be bold ond strong! Danish feor ond doubt! For remember the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” God spoke these very words to Joshua after Moses died ond Joshua become the leader of the Israelites. He faced the big job of leading God's people into the land of Conoon, the land they hod to fight for to take bock. I am sure that Joshua wos pretty nervous, wondering whether or not he would succeed in his new position. You, too, probably ore a little nervous about leoving high school. You ore probably wondering whether you ore ready ond whether you will succeed in your work, your education, your morrioge, your parenting, etc. I am confident that you will succeed providing you claim God's promise in the verse preceding your class verse, verse ond you yourself must think about them (God's lows) every day ond every night so that you will be sure to obey oil of them. For only then will you succeed.” Your teachers taught with the goal that you may come to know ond understand your God ond His Creation better ond that you learned to walk closer with Him so you con succeed, so you can experience the joy of Christian living. Your teachers hove raughr ond your teachers hove prayed that you may hove learned ond learned well. You hove been o fun class. You ond I come to Unity together. Your first year ot Unity wos also my first year or Unity. I soon learned that you could hove fun, bur you also knew when the fun stopped ond business began. I hove seen how you love life ond living ond yet I sow how you loved God ond showed compassion for others. All of us, teachers, secretaries, principals, janitors ond bus drivers, loved you when you first come os fresh, eager sophomores. And now that we hove gotten to know you, we love you even more os seniors. All of us shore your excitement os you graduate. Thanks for being such on important ond enjoyable port of our lives or Unity for the post three years ond remember ... the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. We serve Christ together. Jock Postmo Principal 182 Principals Message How ore we to live? What is our purpose in life? How ore we os individual pieces, ro find our place in God's intricate puzzle? We ore oil children of God ond os such hove o responsibility to each other ond the world . .. . to moke His purpose known in every activity of life. The end of the matter oil hos been heard Feor God ond keep his commandments,.. ... For this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13 We os co-editors would like ro thank oil of the people who hove helped us piece together our book this year. A really big thanks goes to the members of the Silhouette staff — Chad Schreur, Brian Groelsmo, Paul VonderKuyl, Soroh Noormon, Carol Scholten, Wendy Heyboer, Liso Posremo, Cheryl Wieringa, Jackie VonForowe, and Cindy VandenBerge. Thanks also goes to Mr. Josperse our advisor, Steve Talsma our representative with the Taylor Publishing Company, ond Mr. Flietstro ond the rest of the photographers for taking so many pictures. Trying to fir our lives together according ro God's plan is nor easy. Having the opportunity to shape our lives in o Christian environment such os Unity hos been o blessing that many rimes we take for granted. But os we each go our separate ways, o piece of Unity Christian High School will stay with us in our hearts forever. We will remember oil of the pieces of the puzzle now complete as our high school years ore over. We hope that in this book we hove captured some of the victories, the frustrations, the heartaches, the good rimes, ond the achievements. We hope thot they helped mold us into Christian young people ond prepare us for lives of service to God. Sometimes as we ore piecing our own puzzle together we seem ro be missing o piece. Thot missing piece is God, for without Him the picture will never be complete. We offer you the challenge ro never let God be out of your life. Build your life around Him, for He will guide you ond never leave you. Trust in the Lord with oil your heart ond lean not on your own understanding: in oil your ways acknowledge Him, ond He will moke your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 God be with you always, 3n Wemot-i am $ rend a dlnn C ((in £ Iflfjarch 7, 1966 — jlpri(23, 1985 CL of 1984 At the age of 19, Brenda Elling was token from us. We thank God for rhe love Brenda gove ro her family and friends and rhe example she set of a life of Christian joy. This is a prayer we found written when Brenda was struggling about whether or not to go on SWIM. To go meant to give up her job at Meijers, her friends and many other things which were important to her. John 14:6-21 7-10-84 Dear Jesus, -it is through Jesus that we hove life, that God hears our prayers: for Jesus Is our mediator. By His death on the cross we ore given life. It was hard for me ro give every area of my life over to God. I didn't want ro let go of any control in my life that I thought'' I had. It s the greatest feeling ro really know that I don't have anything to worry about yesterday, today, or tomorrow. Day by day I want ro continue to be more ond more Christlike. Because of my love for Him I wont ro keep His commandments and ro Love because He loves me. I know that I'll see His face shining before mine after I die.
