Fun, emotion set mood for day The 1982 homecoming made a grand entrance with the theme, Madison Avenue. The Student Council's choice of theme changed nearly a week before the festivities to Madison Avenue from video games after a petition was submitted to the Student Council. This year's homecoming started out with a bonfire the evening before the big game. School spirits were high with the UT band playing and cheers from the football cheerleaders. The fire was held at the fairgrounds before an exceptionally large crowd. The assembly opened with the introduction of the homecoming court. Mr. Michael Schmidt's acting class performed a humorous skit followed with a skit by the teachers giving their version of physical fitness. Billy Joel's Don't Go Changing was sung beautifully by junior Bill Clark. Tensions mounted before the announcing of the Chris Mohr 1. reacts to being chosen homecoming queen, 2. hugs last year's queen, Kelly Olt-man, and 3. smiles as she receives the queen's crown. 4. The freshman float won this year's competition with “Vanish the Rocks in the Boule. 5. Bill Clark, junior, brought the students to their feet with Billy Joel's “Don't Go Changing. 6. Mr. Schmidt's acting class put on a humorous skit for the students. 7. The teachers spent 15 minutes becoming physically fit. royalty. The king and queen were Vance Behrens and Chris Mohr. Robbie Carr and LaRenda Campbell were named prince and princess. The parade began at 1 p.m. with each class proudly displaying their completed floats. For the second consecutive year, first place went to a freshman class. This year's freshmen won with the theme Vanish the Rocks from the bowl. School spirits were flying high at the game. After an exciting, hard-played contest, though, the Panthers came up on the losing end of a heartbreaker, falling to the Rocks, 33-23. Homecoming is full of color, excitement 1. The senior float should have won first place with Orange Crush on the Rocks! 2. This couple dances to the sound of Nightfall. 3. This panther cheerleader gets into the excitement at the homecoming bonfire. 5. Patty Torok shows her spirit of homecoming with a collection of balloons. 6.
