A Year For Changes l I I i 6 - Opening The school year 1981-82 was a year for changes and new beginnings. Changes in the school's physical ap- pearance were abundant. The gym floors and walls were painted in school colors. At North, a new weight room was added and the old desks in Study Hall I were replaced. The most apparent change was the Soule Bowl renovation. The Pan- ther's home football games were played at Moline's Browning Field while work was progressing on the new Soule Bowl. Along with the physical changes were changes in school policies. The curricu- lum was changed and the systems of weighted grades and passffail were dropped. Attendance policies were also f!

Study hall can sometimes serve as a multipurpose class, 3. Chuck Reeves, senior, sports a Bad Cat t-shirt as he poses with the school mascot. 4. changed. Daily absence lists were distrib- uted to teachers, instead of using admits. lf no call was received from a parent of an ill student, the office called his parents in the evening to check. This new policy proved a deterrent to truancy at UT, Cafeteria prices rose from 800 to 31.25. New types of food were offered to encourage students to eat in the cafete- fla. New faces were seen at South Cam- pus. Linda Cady was hired as the new parking attendant. An ex-disc jockey and former principal of Lena-Winslow High School took the position of principal. Mr. Frank Evans, new principal, has had a positive influence on school spirit. He encouraged the cheerleaders to have pep assemblies to boost school pride. 1981-82 was an outstanding year, lt was not an average or run-of-the-mill year - it was an important year to be remem- bered. 1. Kelly Vyncke, Marcel Quinones, and Terri Mey- er, senior lettermen, enjoy one of UT's home games at Browning Field. 2. Mr. Frank Evans took over the position as principal of South Campus after the retirement of Mr. Stan Sosnouski. 3. The east side bleachers are being replaced as part of the Soule Bowl renovation. 4. Students this year discover that with prices at 31.25, there's no such thing as a free lunch. 5. New paint brightens the gym floors at South Campus. 6. These Panthers know who's number one in the Western Big Six! 7. This sign sums up the feelings of all UT members. The Year That Was Opening
