 S) CD c • c CD CL a o -c happenings happenings . . . what kind of name is that for a section of a yearbook . . . well happenings, that’s what is going on . . . maybe your happenings is football games, sports, clubs, events . . . freezing while you watch, anguishing as you participate or getting hoarse as you cheer. . . and in the winter there is basketball or wrestling . . . cheerleaders flipflopping across the gym . . . then spring . . . when u.t. really turns on to baseball and track . . . golf, cross-country ,tennis ... all the athletics . . . yea, but some of the kids don’t like sports ... so there's clubs . . . some just for fun . . . some that perform services . . . and some that just sit. . . taking trips with the ski club to try schussing down the slopes . . . working late for skyline, mind's eye or key . . . competing in speech events . . . goin’ to student council meetings . . . or painting Christmas windows . . . but happenings is more than this . . . it’s the homecoming assembly . . . the parade . . . the dance ... all the plays . . . pep rallies ... all the events of the school year ... it is simply what's happening around the school . . . 28

homecoming homecoming 71 -72 ... a year the seniors will always remember cause everything seemed to be going their way . . . everybody was busy working on floats til midnight . . . and then up for school . . . homework suffered . . . eyes drooped . . . yet, everyone made it through. the week of excitement came to a peak second hour friday . . . bill abbott and sandy johnson were announced king and queen . . . dave scott and roxanne dhondt as prince and princess. it was almost impossible to finish the day in classes . . . and many didn't . . . they rushed to put the last minute touches on the floats. two o’clock came . . . the parade under sunny skies for the first time in years . . . the beautiful weather continuing into the evening . . . the game . . . the halftime show . . . royalty being presented to the audience . . . judging of the floats being announced . . . then the tall tale coming true . . . the underdog panthers beating the undefeated davenport blue devils 7-6. in the victory glee, many of the floats were destroyed . . . the publications float burned . . . but then it did save on napkins. Saturday . . . the weekend . . . decorations for the dance . . . and then it finally arrived . . . the music by u.s.s ... a perfect homecoming for all. ♦ gracing homecoming royalty court was jeff witt, diane longueville, annie perez, kenny knox (front), ron boultinghouse, val carlson, roxanne dhondt, sandy johnson, bill abbott, dave scott, becky jack, jon glendon (seated), fred segura, kris heitmann, henry sierra, corindy cox, mary king, murray bishoff, wendy england and tim hughes (standing). ♦ princess roxanne and prince dave were royalty runnerups. ♦ crown bearers were an-drea stiegel and peter sproul. 30
