DEBATE The debate team attended several tournaments during the year to debate the question of “Increasing Educational Opportunities for High School Students.” The team took a trip to Normal for a convention and made other trips out of town for meets. The team did not place too highly in tournaments, but they did receive good experience. Most members of the team were introduced to debate for the first time this year. With this year’s experience behind them, they will be more prepared for next year. MR. EDWARD VIRTUNE Every Monday night found the debate team in practice. Members of the team were: Ronald Lohse, Robert Stevenson, Bonnie Krukenberg, John Siefken, and Robert Cattoir. 95

DECLAMATION The students who went out for declamation the first of the year worked hard with their readings. Of the members that tried out for the team, these twelve were chosen for the varsity team. ORIGINAL MONOLOGUE These students wrote original monologues and our representative, Helen Tsakanikas. pulled through district and sectional to go to state. Helen represented the group in contests and placed to go on to state.
