fh.ay,lmou4hLio l At the beginning of Second Class Year, we were introduced to the Department of Ordnance and Gunnery. From that time on, the world of breechblocks, recoil mechanisms, and computers was a big part of ou 1' academic lives. Many of us came to dread the Walks over to Ward Hall or the occasional trip to Dahlgren or the gun shed for the competitions. However, we all came to agree that the program of theoretical and practical instruction was indispensable to success in our future naval careers. From the 'nuts and bolts' course of Second Class Year, we proceeded very rapidly, . A it seemed, into the intricacies of modern naval tire control with its maze of directors, computers, ballistic predictions, and so much more. Who can forget the hours we spent poring over rangekeeper flow diagrams or the countless dehnitions and symbols which we had to memorize? How about the many times we heard, Gentlemen, this isnlt a memory course, and then wondered who was kidding whom? Captain John V.
