Ain. The USMA Cadet Mountaineering Team is a group of approximately 50 cadets dedicated to climbing. We practice daily at the crags around West Point and at the Class of '79 Indoor Wall. Team trips include visits to the climbing mecca of the Northeast: the Gunks, as well as ioe climbing in the Catskill Mountains. Ourteam is made up of members of all four classes, oflioer and civilian faculty members. Each fall, the team invites local climbers to climb in a friendly competition at FEI. Wall. This gives the cadets an opportunity to interact with the climbing oommunity, forge friendships and prove ourselves alongside other climbers. CMT had the opportunity to bring our love of rock climbing to the Corps this year at the Class of '79 Wall. We taught the Education 81 Certification program, as well as staffed Cpen Sessions during seoond semester for interested cadets. The Mountaineering Club and Team have existed sinoe the 1960's and represent an outstanding tradition of appreciation for the outdoors, rock and ice climbing. .ggi.s vl,.,7gyA 4 tyrr . There are varying levels of course difficulty based on age and ability, and each member of the USMAOC team advances to higher level courses as they build their skills and gain more experience in the sport. The team is not just about competing, however. Every year we hold a meet in the spring for the civilian community to enter. lt is a very challenging event to put together, but each member of the team contributes and works hard to make it successful.
