R S ITZER H ln any college yearbook staff there are those people with a great deal of techni- cal expertise in yearbook work and those who are relatively inexperienced. Regardless of the level of knowledge, however, we are amateurs and require the assistance of a professional who can teach the fundamentals of yearbook work as well as introducing us to innovations in the field. The Academy has been very lucky in the past few years to have Mr. Dick Lopa- chin of the Taylor Publishing Company in Dallas, Texas to work with the year- book staffs, to insure that the yearbook we create is of the best quality possible. To a great extent the ability of the l-lowitzer yearbook to win prestigious awards frequently is due to lvlr. Lopachin. ln addition to advising the Howitzer staff on technical matters Dick has been a great friend to many of us this year and in the past and on behalf of the staff l wish to express our thanks for Mr. Lopachin's help and friendship. 26 i

The 1976 Howitzer staff was always able to handle the job of putting the yearbook together from a technical aspect with the help of Dick Lopachin. Where a problem in the organization arose was with the administrative tasks we were faced with. In addition to his teaching job in the Department of Mechanics, Captain Richard W. Thoden as the Howitzer Officer in Charge spent many long hours solving these administrative problems. CPT Thoden created an effective filing system for the Howitzer to insure that proper records were kept on a yearly basis and worked with the Cadet Activities Division in order to provide the Howitzer with an office in building 720. As a result of CPT Thoden's efforts the Howitzer has become a much more effective organization, better able to handle the essential admin' trative requirements in the future. In addition to those accomplishments mentioned above CPT Thoden maintained a close relationship with members of the Howitzer staff and was often called on for help and advice in many areas. On behalf of the Howitzer staff and the class of 1976 I would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to CPT Thoden for his work with our yearbook and wish him the best of luck in the future as he leaves the Academy this summer.
