GRAY WALLS Rising abruptly from the Hudson River, the Gothic structures that typify West Point form a startling contrast to the bright green of the surrounding highlands. Although the Acad- emy itself covers many acres, the main build- ings are grouped together, surrounding the Plain to boom back musical echoes as the band sends the cool notes of ' ' Retreat into the stillness of an afternoon. Some of the bar- racks which today are filled with laughter and study, housed earlier the developing minds and bodies of other men: Pershing, Mac- Arthur, Bradley and Eisenhower. 1870, the North Gate.
