Dedication: Rear Admiral Mark H. Buz It is expected for a room to come to attention for highly ranked officer and continue to stay attenth throughout the entire presentation. However, it is m common for a room to then immediately fill with roarii applause and stimulated yells, continuing for moments i end, once that individual is welcomed onto the stage. E t more rare, is the fact that it happens every single time thi Kings Point Alumni attends an event at the United Stall Merchant Marine Academy. The staff of 2018 Midships is pleased to dedicate tin yearbook to Rear Admiral Mark H. Buzby (USN, Ret.) an to applaud him once more for his frequent and inspirit presence both on campus at Kings Point and within maritime industry. Some events that he has attended tit year include. Homecoming, Coast Guard Games, Alumni Awards Dinner, Board of Visitors, the USS Jot McCain Ceremony and much more. On August 16i 2017, Secretary Elaine L. Chao swore in Admiral Buzl as the Administrator of the Maritime Administration. 1 has had a lasting impact on the Academy ever since, preaches three notable guidelines to professional succa which has impacted everyone striving to become lea within the regiment and in life outside of Kings Point. These guidelines are: 1) Put people first. 2) Be professional. 3) Be a good shipmate. ADM Buzby graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Nautia Science and a U.S Coast Guard Third Mate License. Upon graduation, he commissioned in June and later graduated fn the Joint Forces Staff College and holds master’s degrees from the U.S. Naval War College and Salve Regina University Strategic Studies and International Relations. ADM Buzby made numerous deployments aboard cruisers and destroyers as a surface warfare officer and e commanded the destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) during the ship’s first Mediterranean Persian Gulf deployme Following this tour, ADM Buzby returned to sea in the U.S. 6th Fleet where he later assumed the command of Destrod Squadron 31 as the sea combat commander for the Abraham Lincoln Battle Group during two deployments in supportij Operations Southern Watch and Enduring Freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan. Back ashore, ADM Buzby served on the Navy staff as the Point Defense Anti-Air Warfare section head for Surf j Warfare Division and as Aegis Combat System development officer. He was a part of the Joint Operations Division as operations officer and chairman's briefer and was the 16th commanding officer of Surface Warfare Officers Scl command. As a flag officer, ADM Buzby served on the Navy staff as deputy for Surface Ships, deputy for Surface Warfare deputy for Expeditionary Warfare. He also served as commander. Joint Task Force Guantanamo, and most recently| deputy chief of Staff for Global Force Management and Joint Operations, U.S. Fleet Forces Command. Finally, AI Buzby served as the commander of the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command from October 2009 to March 2013. ADM Buzby received the following personal awards: Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (fj awards). Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (five awards) and various other and campaign awards. Admiral Buzby is a highly experienced officer and is a very respected individual at this institution because of it.
