Coast Guard License Exam Preparation Dan Saldana’s (KP’15) Tips to passing license: 1. If you’re not in the dog house at least once, you’re not living 2. Don’t always be in the doghouse 3. You can bomb all of Gilmartin’s test and still pass if you try really hard on the final. 4. Study the Murphy books. (Fact: Not written by Captain Murphy, but still a good dude). 5. Even if you failed Hard’s class, he taught you more than enough to pass rules. They ask the same questions as the Murphy book. 6. Take a day off from studying and treat yo' self. 7. Throw a bunch of coins in the fountain. Trust me. 8. The night before the first test, make sure you're really anxious and get about 3 hours of sleep. 9. After your test, go back to your room and decompress, then study again. 10. Don't forget to high five all the instructors standing outside before you enter the gym. 11. On the last day, panic. 12. Call your parents when you pass. 13. Once you pass, you must ring the bell at all times. Ring the war bell too. Good luck and stay out of trouble! Study hard but don't wear yourselves out. Passing license is the best feeling in the world. Soak it all in and don't forget to bum all your books in the park. 6
