She was taken from this world on January 26, 2013. Her kind spirit touched all of the midshipmen at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. She will be forever missed by her Kings Point family. Congratulations Class of 2014 June 21, 2014 Class of 2014: It is one of the greatest honors of my life to be the president of the Kings Point Class of 2014.1 cannot believe how fast and how slow, at times, our four years went at Kings Point. There were many dark times at the academy especially during plebe year. However, I will recall these memories and be thankful for the friendships that got us through the difficult times at Kings Point and will remain with us for life. There were many shenanigans pulled within the barracks and other plebe nonsense that help contribute to our class’s comradery and spirit. We have sweat, tears, wild times, and Kings Point Park to hold us to our bonds. Ultimately the 2014 bonded friendships brought epic social events and awesome memories: Ring Dance, Senior Luau, 300,200,100 nights, June Ball, Battle Standard Dinner, and of course our weekly Wednesday Pub Nights. As we progress through our lives and careers, my memories will shine warmly with the talented and gifted individuals from the class of 2014 whom I am honored to call my classmates. The greatest assets that the Academy has given me are my classmates, the graduates of the class of 2014.1 honestly never thought graduation day would come; but enduring through the four years has earned us the right to call ourselves Kings Pointers and no one can take that away from us. I look forward to seeing all of you at future reunions, I am sure we will celebrate our memories of our Kings Point journey like we did during our four years at the academy. Stay safe and may Fair Winds and Following Seas always be with you 2014. Ryan Raffo President 4 bea.tccoAttyuvuL Despite the rain, the Class of 2014 still enjoyed their first time back together since splitting plebe year. The Alumni provided an Hawaiian atmosphere and delicious food at Melville Hall. The Regiment's own Pass and Review rocked with special guest appearances from members of the Class of 2014. The kegs were drained dry, but luckily the pub was there for everyone to continue the parts’! During this shutdown all “non-essential” government employees were furloughed. Included were USMMA's instructors and contractors. But students did not let an early fall break hold them back! They used the opportunity for international adventures, road trips, theme park visits and reunions with families long separated! No doubt that Kings Pointers always make the best out of situations! Improvise. Adapt. Overcome! The renovation of the last of six dormitories will be completed by the end of 2014. This will include individual room heating and air conditioning controls, completely modernized bathrooms for men and women, new fire suppression sprinkler systems, and brand new furniture and mattresses. The renovation of the Delano galley should also be completed by the end of 2014. This will greatly enhance the efficiency and capabilities of the infrastructure within the dining facility. The modernized and professionally designed kitchen should assist in ensuring the students receive quality and healthy meals. The campus water main project is a multiple phase project to increase water pressure and volume to the campus. Three completed phases are a comprehensive campus wide recording of existing pressures and volumes, installation by the local water authority of an increased size of pipe to the campus, and a new W'ater distribution and metering pit. The final phase is individual building distribution enhancements for those locations that require improved volume or pressure.” Description from USM.VIA Capital Improvement Website “The Department of Capital Improvement Projects oversees large scale construction projects on the campus. A series of infrastructure improvements were initiated on the direction of former Transportation Secretary LaHood to provide midshipmen the tools and resources they need for a top-notch education. Some examples are the renovations to the galley of the student cafeteria Delano Hall, campus water main replacement, and renovation of the student dormitories. One could say the job merely entailed exchanging your money for beer and ordering more when supplies were exhausted... Yet it was much more than that and it's truly been an awesome experience. Pub Master would just be another run of the mill, meaningless position if it weren t for all yall. our thirsty friends, who came in every Wednesday with the intention of having a beer or getting hammered, that made it the greatest thing for us about being a first classmen (besides graduating). It was the class of 2014 that made the Pub into the booze bastion it is. It was a year we will always look back on and smile about, for the Pub would've been nothing without yall. So. thank you for everything. Special thanks go out to those who helped out behind the bar on nights Sherman or I couldn't do it. Without yall's help we could not have done nearly as good a job (we like to think we did). If we remember correctly, it was a certain Nav Law professor who said You can always retake a class, but you can't relive a good party.” and we did our best to make sure every Pub night was a hell of a party. While he actually didn't say that, we like to imagine he would, given the opportunity. As Pub Masters, the Pub was our sacred domain, where booze held dominion... a place where the beer flows like wine and where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. Personally, we believe every aspect of booze should be celebrated, and celebrate we did. Yes. the good and the bad (after all. hangovers are God's way of saying you kicked ass last night), the pleasure and the pain, and occasionally the hurling. Being able to provide the remedy to a parched gullet (and ours at the same time) at the Pub enabled us to do so. and for that, we thank you. While some nights required a little extra clean up towards the end. it was worth every minute. Especially when a special someone wasn't demanding we close immediately at eleven pm. To cover the whole year would be an extraordinarily monumental undertaking, as it is a long duration of time and many nights are hazy at best, but a couple evenings stick out most. Luau was without a doubt one of the wildest nights the Pub will ever see ...that was a damn good party! The collective BCA of everyone in that room could've killed a wild pack of buffalo. Halloween was a blast, for all those who dressed up in costume or for those who came to simply get messed up. Or watching (name omitted for obvious reasons) strip for free beer. The Super Bowl was another awesome night, not because of the game (which was atrocious), but the after party. There were about thirty people left when we busted out four or five thirty packs and started handing them out to whoever would have one. The two hours of crazy dancing that followed was to 70 s disco-funk and classic rock music. The late nights when we'd bring out a couple thirty packs on the house were always a riot, just an absolute blast. Class would always be a little rough the next day. but it was worth it every time. Karaoke nights. St. Patrick's Day. Battle Standard Dinner. June Ball...the list goes on and on for all the different occasions and memorable nights. We wish we could share the many more memories we have, but sadly, there is just not enough page space. The theme is the same though, and that is every night the Pub was open, a good time was had. largely in part to our class' impressive drinking abilities, which will go down in Kings Point lore and legend. May you always be in good health, have joy in your lives, and your libations forever aplenty. Party on. 2014. Your Pub Masters.
