Regimental Dog It is with great pleasure and excitement that the Regiment of Midshipmen hosted Nikki, one of the Guide Dog Foundation’s future Seeing 3ye dogs, for the past year. MIDN Rebecca Grimes was given the important task of raising Nikki for her first year which entailed exposing her to the various settings a Midshipmen encounters at school as well as events outside of the Regiment. Additionally, MIDN Grimes was to teach her the basic commands and to train her to understand the difference between work and play. When Nikki is working, just like any guide dog in training, no one is allowed to touch her unless specifically told to do so. Nikki turned 1 on 14 January 2011 and was released back to the Guide Dog Foundation on 6 February 2011. Upon returning to the Foundation she underwent 6 months or more of extensive training in order to meet the qualifications of the important job she has ahead of her.
