Lord, stand beside the men who sail our merchant ships in storm and gale. - Eternal Father Mariner's Verse Immediate right: Deiano Dining Hall, the largest building on campus, named after Amasa Delano who was master of his own ship at age 23. In front of Delano is a brand new grinder, paved with bricks, which was installed this year. Bottom right: Bland Library, named after Schulyer Bland, the 'Father' of the Merchant Marine Act of 1936. Top left: Amphitrite Pool, named after the Greek Goddess of the seas and mythical wife of Poseidon, Ruler of the Oceans. Top center: War Memorial commemorating the 210 Cadets and Graduates who gave their lives during World War II. Bottom left: Five-inch gun mount similar to those installed on merchant ships during WWII. Located inside the Wiley Oval. Bottom right: O’Hara Hall, the school gymnasium, named after Cadet Edwin J. O'Hara, who was posthumously awarded the Merchant Marine Distinguished Service Medal.

On March 4, 1942, President Franklin Roosevelt authorized the purchase of the Walter P. Chrysler estate on the North Shore of Long Island at Kings Point. The eight-one acre campus was dedicated on September 30, 1943. Below: Land Hall, which serves as the Academy student center, is the location of various campus activities. It contains a big screen television, pool table, pianos, reading room, and a kitchen. Above: Wiley Hall, the Academy's administrative headquarters, and the “Oval.” Above: Tomb Field. Captain James Harvey Tomb, USN, was the first Superintendent of the Academy. Above: The American Merchant Marine Museum is a repository of American maritime history. U.S. Merchant Marine Memorial Chapel contains the Roll of Honor Book listing the name, rank or rating, ship, and date of sinking of every Merchant Marine Officer and Seaman who lost his life in enemy action in WWI and WWII. Above: Melville Hall was named for Herman Melville. He was a distinguished author seaman whose most famous work was Moby Dick.
