(graduation June 16, 2008 was a fair day — warm with cloudy skies, but it was a memorable date for the Class of 2008 Gradu- ation Day, to be exact. And while the commencement speaker, Navy Admiral James G. Stavridis, Commander, U.S. Southern Command, might not have been a household name, he delivered one of the more memorable graduation speeches in recent years. Calling Kings Point “this most purely maritime of all our academies,” ADM Stavridis urged the Class of 2008 not be be afraid to question its seniors in the workplace, to be receptive to opportunites when they appear, and to never stop loving the sea. “It has been said that to reach a port, you must sail,” remarked ADM Stavridis, “at times with the wind, and at other times against it, but sail you must and not drift or lie at anchor. A good thought to close on.” Top Right: Class Valedictorian Robert Grandstaff imparts his words of wisdom. Ml Above: Jaquelvn Peterson wonders if the tube rattles when you shake it.
