There he earned the Silver Star, the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantry Badge for his outstanding service. Returning stateside with the rank ofCaptain, he served a tour as Company Commander of the Basic Training Company in Fort Bragg, NC. After completing active Army service, CDR Gundy joined the New York Army National Guard where he commanded the 1st BN 69 Infantry (the Fighting Sixty Ninth) and the 2nd Brigade, 42nd Infantry Division (Rainbow Division).
