You now join the ranks of generations of Merchant Marine officers who have served our great Nation in both times of peace and times of war. As your service secretary, I am very proud of every one of you. I would like to extend a special thanks to those who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. As Kings Pointers, you have learned the principles of duty, excellence and sacrifice through a challenging curriculum, a demanding year at sea, and the invaluable knowledge handed down to you from talented, experienced instructors. This foundation will ensure that your future careers will be strong, no matter the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Your engineering and navigational skills, paired with your lessons in teamwork, will help you weather any storm. As you head into the seas of change, always remember the Merchant Marine Academy motto: acta non verba - deeds not words - and you cannot go wrong.
