The words that precede it on the monument, integrity, courage and service, are all respect. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy has earned respect in the maritime community, both nationally and internationally, by adhering to its pinciples. Its graduates have demonstrated integrity and have shown courage and service in the face of adveristy, from World War II to “9-11 to Operation Iraqi Freedom.
