Two T HOUSAND One Left: “Peace Eternal in a Nation United' - Getrysburgh Memorial. After the attacks on 9 11 Americans everywhere united, peace reigns within a country at war. A whole new sense of pride for America floods across our nation, American flags are prevalent. Left: The academy vessel Growler and her crew moved tons of supplies from Jersey City, NJ to lower Manhattan. A view of the towers, standing, burning, from KP. This is the view that midshimen, faculty and staff watched, helplessly as the towers fell. The Billion Soul Strife A storm of tragedy has struck a simple land Where the theme of Freedom has the upper hand. Lives of the innocent were split in two As the tormenting winds of evil blew. Screams of fear and horror shattered a nation While others watched helplessly upon the devastation. Tears of sorrow and grief go to those in mourning For a powerful pain has come without warning. Though the terror came from the blue, clear sky And the enemy stays in shadows to hide We will stand united through the smoke and fire And watch out prayers be lifted higher. Unified as one we will make a solid stand Backed by the powerful God Almighty’s Hand. Though the Billion Soul Strife begins, we are unbroken to this day Through blood and tears, we echo these words, “God Bless the U.S.A.” M N Jeremiah Gruidl, 2002 September 13, 2001 Admiral Stewart presents the Academy Achievement Ribbon for Meritorious Sen-ice. Academy Midshipmen are honored in a ceremony and presented the Academy’s highest award, the Academy Achievement Ribbon for Meritorious Sen-ice. Also honored and recognized this day are Academy personnel that assisted on 9 11, and the days directly following it.
