LEFT: Always hoping for a little luck, midshipmen toss coins into Amphitrite Pool. BELOW: A deck cadet doing something we are all familiar with: splicing a mooring line. “SEAWARD” Oh Sleepless Ocean, I long to be a part of thee; I MUST NOT TARRY EVEN ONE MORE DAY. Today I cast off not a memory; But with a vital part of me I pay. YOU ARE THE GOAL OF ALL THE BROOKS AND streams; SO I DO JOIN THE FRONTIERS OF A BRIGHTER DAY. My thirst for freedom was the maker of my DREAMS, My JOYS ARE BUI YESTERDAY. ON MY SORROWS OF NOW I DEPART-THE PAST IS TO THE FUTURE CAST; And sorrow makes my soul with anguish stir. Farewell, though 1 do ache with longing for THAT PAST; I JOIN THE SEA, THE MOTHER WHO CALLS ALL THINGS TO HER. AS AN ARROW FROM THE BOW OF LIFE I FLY, TO SEEK A GOAL WHICH 1 DO NOT YET SEE And will not understand until 1 die, But one that God, or Fate, has planned for ME. As SNOW CAPPED RIPPLES BLEND INTO THE SEA; SO I ENTER THE WORLD AND GIVE WHAT IS ME. Though just a mere drop to the ocean I give, She opens her arms and bids it to live. 5
