 Wallace Franklin served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, flying in heavy bombers and transports, and attaining the rank of captain. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Col lege of the City of New York, and later received a master’s in the same field from Col umbi a Uni versi ty. He worked for many years with the Curtis-Wright Corp. as a project and design engineer on gas turbines and rotary engines. Frankl in came to Kings Point in 1984 as an instructor in the Engineering Department. In 1991, at the age of 67, he took sabbati cal from hi s teachi ng duti es to go to sea and earn a thi rd assi stant engineer’s 1 i cense. He al so has been deeply invol ved in the restoration of the steam engine from the old training vessel EMERY RICE. The engine is now part of the Academy Museum’s permanent display. Frankl i n i s a facul ty member wi th genui ne concern for hi s students who helps them both inside and outside the classroom. He treats midshipmen with respect. “Wally” is a true individual, and the Class of 1998 will never forget him. “You have shared your youth with me and I have shared my knowledge. I think that I got the better part of the deal.
