Just as that Indoctrination cadence goes: Now, four years later, here we stand on the threshold of graduation. Some came here to pursue a maritime career, some to join the military and some did not know what they were getting into until it was too late to change their minds. Regardless of the initial motivation, every Kings Pointer needs something to guide him or her through. Mariners rely on lighthouses to guide them over rough spots in their transits. Likewise, every Kings Pointer depends on a meta- phoric beacon for guidance through the voyage to graduation. There is a light that never goes out. Whether it be a hobby, a sport, a close friend, or the anticipation of walking across the stage in June, we all have a guide to steer us through the sometimes disillusioning, sometimes choppy sea of life. These guides make it possible to stick it out through the heartache and hardships that accompanied our years here. One, Two, Three, Four, I hope you all got what you came here for Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Four more years ‘til you graduate. 5

Each midshipman enters through thegmte at the beginning of plebe year and changes. We live. We learn. Magnanimous in victory. Resolute in defeat. Resentment is accofhpanied by a sense of accomplishment in what we have done. There is no denying the transformation that occurs to develop a plebe into a Kings Pointer. Turning through the pages of this book of experiences is evidence of the unique flavor of Kings Point. It is time captured still. The unending weeks and quarters now seem like insignificant blinks of the eye. The time that felt like it lasted forever has now swept by us. The habits and mentality acquired through our time span here are indelible marks in our spirits. Both attributes and stigmas justify our identity and our continued existence as the United States Merchant Marine Academy, for we are Kings Point- ers always and forever.
