The RBU, over the past years has been a source of musical enjoyment for its members. It has been a place where an individual could escape from the everyday hardships of acad- emy life and find comfort in an armchair and a great music system. For an interested mem- ber, it is an opportunity to expand knowledge of the music industry. For others, it is simply a place to go to find new things. During the last year of my time here, the RBU has come under attack for these very reasons. The “academy” is not served by the club therefore, it is unnecessary. If this is so the question arises, “How do you justify the Ethnic Culture Club, The Outdoorsman Club, The Ski Club?” This does not matter. If the people who really run this school want to close the club for whatever reason, they will do it. We can do nothing about it. The sad thing is that they do not even know what they have lost. I do. I thank you for the education and the opportu- nity to gain a foothold by doing what I love. I’m sorry that the administration is so closed minded because we have lost a great thing. Faron R. AMERICAN SOCIETY OF NAVAL ENGINEERS The American Society of Naval Engineers is a professional society that keeps its members up- dated on new technology as well as providing an easy way to network to a vast number of compa- nies and people. The society also provides a forum for direct communication between gov- ernment, military, and civilian engineers throughout the industry. The Student Section has been successful in networking throughout the industry and in attaining a personal under- standing of many aspects of engineering, often overlooked in the classroom. This year, the Student Section was run by Chairman Jody A. Rice ‘95 and Vice Chairman Glen Olinger ‘95. The Section has attended the ASNE Annual Meeting Convention held in Wash- ington D.C. Many job opportunities have arised to those who have actively participated in the society as well as a comaraderie in the industry. The ASNE conventions and meetings have proven to be most beneficial to those who have participated. Much has been gained by ASNE members in the areas of technical expertise and knowledge, all of which was graciously offered by senior engineers in the engineering industry.
