Chapel is a iivnifrmmuumi in irit oin- cera and seamen who gave their lives in the United States Merchant Marine during the two World Wars. The Mariners’ Chapel was built from public subscription and fund raising, along with the inspiration of Vice Ad- the Academy from 1948-1970, and his wife. The completed building was dedi- cated on May 1, 1961, three years after construction began. Lt. Richard Fletcher, USNR, has been warmly welcomed by the Regi- ment of Midshipmen as the new Protes- graduate of William Carey College, where he was selected as outstanding student in 1977. During his active Navy career, Lt. Fletcher was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for his work on Middle East cruises. ■■■■

Chapel’s three faith revolving alter are inscribed in a Roll of Honor Book which rests within a glazed gold case on a marble pedestal. Special tribute is also give to the 210 cadets or graduates A memorial to the officers and men of the United States Merchant Marine, who gave their lives at sea in World Wars I and II, stands in the sanctuary of the Chapel. The names of these men of this Academy who lost their lives in World War II. A bronze plaque with their names is posted on the east wall near the pulpit. Chapel nearing completion in June of 1960
