DEBATE COUNCIL From Row: R. Stewart, L. Gholson. R. Wi e, M. McCauley. Buck Ron: T. Mayes. B. Pearson, E. Hays, V. Allen. C. Wiener. The academic year of 69 70 proved to be the most bounteous in a series of fruitful years for the Mariners Debate Council. Under the tutelage of Doctor A. A. Norton, the Debate Council proceeded to amass more laurels in one season than in the si.x previous years combined. Maintaining a high standard of debate throughout the year, the varsity team highlighted their season by taking second place at the Oklahoma Internation Tour- nament and placing two men in the top twenty at the annual International Tour- nament at University of McGill, Montreal. Even more remarkable was the performance of the Novice Plebc team. These men brought back three trophies for their cH ' orts and received a standing ovation after they represented Kings Point for its first invitation to the thirty year old Pcnn State Parliamentary Tournament. The season was climaxed by a surprise attack on Air Force; and for the second time in the 16 year history of the Golden Gavel Tournament. Kings Point tied for first place only to lose the Gavel to Air Force on total rankings. It was a very good year; one which hopefully will lead to a National Cham- pionship next year. 88

NTERNATIONAL RELATIONS COUNCIL For the third straight year. International Relations Council has been building and growing. One reason for its success is the wide range of opportunities IRC offers its membership and also the entire regiment. This year, there were several distinguished guest speakers who were experts in thei r particular fields. International Relations Council challenges members to contribute their efforts towards activities at other colleges and universities. Delegations of Kings Pointers have been sent this year to seven different schools for Model United Nations Conferences. International Relations Council views the future as a medium for relevancy, where stu- dents will encounter real world situations. Through study, consultation, diligence, and group eflbrt, there will be attempts to formu- late viable conclusions. Such efforts will en- able the individual to accumulate a finer com- prehension o{ ' himself and the wt)rld of inter- national relations.
