DEBATE COUNCIL From Row: R. Stewart, L. Gholson. R. Wi e, M. McCauley. Buck Ron: T. Mayes. B. Pearson, E. Hays, V. Allen. C. Wiener. The academic year of 69 70 proved to be the most bounteous in a series of fruitful years for the Mariners Debate Council. Under the tutelage of Doctor A. A. Norton, the Debate Council proceeded to amass more laurels in one season than in the si.x previous years combined. Maintaining a high standard of debate throughout the year, the varsity team highlighted their season by taking second place at the Oklahoma Internation Tour- nament and placing two men in the top twenty at the annual International Tour- nament at University of McGill, Montreal. Even more remarkable was the performance of the Novice Plebc team. These men brought back three trophies for their cH ' orts and received a standing ovation after they represented Kings Point for its first invitation to the thirty year old Pcnn State Parliamentary Tournament. The season was climaxed by a surprise attack on Air Force; and for the second time in the 16 year history of the Golden Gavel Tournament. Kings Point tied for first place only to lose the Gavel to Air Force on total rankings. It was a very good year; one which hopefully will lead to a National Cham- pionship next year. 88

X ' ' But Jim, I think it ' s a good idea. Polaris, this year, got off to a rather slow start following a controversial issue published in the later part of last year. The magazine was unoffically abandoned until some members of the class of 1971 decided to take over. This spring, under the able leadership of Kevin Cosgriff, Polaris reappeared in a new form with a new image. 87
