It took much to build United . . . more than the passage of years. It took the found- ing . . . the sacrifices of many . . . but more important, one which was motivated by a purpose of the highest essence . . . for she was established to the end that . . . the Youth may be piously educated in good let- ters and manners. Concrete realization of this highest essence was necessary too . . . realization embodied in former graduates whose deeds were testimony of their magnitude of spirit and ambition . . . which were nourished, perhaps acquired through United . . . under her influence. These. too, were the deeds of those who helped the cause of civilization . . . deeds of United and her ehildren.', lt took foresight and faith to make United . . . not foresight and faith because ofv the past but in spirit of the future. XVithout this, the planning would have been in vain . . . with this, United became a living symbol of courage and determination. It was such as this that made men struggle in spite of indifference and inadequate finances . . . it is such as this that makes the heart of the student of United swell with pride . . . for we are a part of a school and we will be ready to meet the demands of the future.
