ia V hedicaticn As we, the graduating class of 1958, look hack over these past years at United, our hearts are filled with joy and gratitude for what we have experienced here. The friendships we have made, the many hours of work and study we have encountered, the good times we have shared—these memories will be treasured forever. Our success and also our failures will be remembered as a part of the happiest days of our lives. We give this book as a record of our accomplishments during this past year to our teachers and our friends—all who have given so much of themselves to make United something of which we can truly be proud. Thus far, we have a record of 3 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie. Taking into consideration that we competed against class A or AA schools, this is an excellent record for the first year of competition. The rifle team received most of its ammunition, targets, and eight new Remington rifles from the U. S. Army. Our rifle team is a member of the National Rifle Association, and this membership entitles our boys to earn certain proficiency awards for shooting high scores. .56 MM fldmihiAtraticH WOODROW PIIII.L1PPI Superv ising Principal B.S.. As Juniors, we worked long and hard to raise money for a successful prom. Many “firsts” have been accomplished at United during our Senior year. This is our first year for an organized rifle team. Our football game with Homer City was the first to be broadcasted from Buena Vista Field. Several of our senior l oys, Joe Krill, Glenn Becker, Roy Smith, Chuck Mack. Barry Alberter, and Stanley Mosler, were chosen this year to attend science lectures at tne Westinghouse plant at Blairsville. Josephine Hamacek became United’s No. 1 homemaker when she won the Betty Crocker Ilomemaking Award. Kent East and his famed guitar made us proud when he won first place on the weekly T V. program, WILKINS AMATEUR HOUR. This made him eligible to compete on the grand prize show, where he won second place and $300. Carole Mattern won the “I SPEAK FOR DEMOCRACY contest in our school and was runner-up in county competition. These indiv idual achievements are but a few of our accomplishments. It. took the combined efforts of every senior to make our class the finest graduating class ever. 64 ClaAA O r ItySS CLASS MOTTO: Climb high. Climb far; Your aim the sky. Your goal a star.
