The United Joint High School Football squad coached by Tom Madill ended its regular season with a record of five wins and four losses. The Lions ended in a tie with Elders Ridge for the county championship. The play-off was held at Memorial Field in Indiana. The Lions lost, 20-6. The game was played for the benefit of Johnny Yuha, injured grid star of Elders Ridge. Milo Luther, Lions right guard, made the Johnstown Tribune's All- Scholastic second team. He also made the Indiana Evening Gazette's All-County squad at first team right guard and Jack McLaughlin made second string full back. McLaughlin was also on the Gazette's 1949 squad at the position of guard on the first team. The graduates are: Joe Franklin, Robert Clark, Milo Luther, James Fatula, Joseph Lych, Charles Bealunis, Jack McLaughlin, Kenneth Boring, William Paynter, Joseph Kubic, Charles Garvin, and Edward Blankenbicker. The Lions lost to Green Township in the first round of play at the Indiana County Tournament. Dick Carney, Lion star, was on the Indiana County Tournament All Star team. He also made honorable mention on the Indiana Evening Gazette’s All County team. Two members of the team will be lost to graduation. They are Dick Carney and Peter Ludwig.
