CONVE T10 ISHIGHPOI TOFYEAR JCL convention is the high point of the year for Latin stu- dents. At the convention clubs from all over the state compete against each other for points. There are costumes displayed, tests taken. and officers elected. Each school enters a quiz bowl team and a program similar to ln the Know is conducted. Our quiz bowl team was defeated in the first round by a narrow mar- gin. The choir was very active as they sang in VA Day. the Ohio Wesleyan Choir. and the Bicentennial Pag- eant. The band was also busy as they prepared for contest. A few members of the band were selected to play in the city-wide Statehood Day Band. All activi- ties of both choir and band were climaxed at the music banquet. Jack Rupert and Tammy Nelson were selected Mr. and Miss Music. Helen Huffman received the Choral Award and Tammy Nelson received the John Philip Sousa Award. C31 Sophomore Class Officers - Sean Smith, president, David Rinkliff, secretaryg Shelley Smith, vice president, Bob Atwood, treasurer. LEADERS OF THE PA CK Elected at the first class meeting of the year, class officers must be the leaders of the pack. They must plan all money making projects and activities for that year. Class officers must set examples for the rest of the student body. Being a class officer is not an easy job. For example, prom time roles around, and the president of the junior class finds the treasury con- sists of ten dollars. There is a problem. Now it's four days before Easter and the president of the sopho- more class finds out that the sophomores are to do the Easter assembly. There's another problem. Homecoming time and the secretary of the freshman class starts working on the float. Oh, no, there's only one box of Kleenex and it covers one-fifth of the float. Another problem has arisen. There are not always problems to be encountered when you are a class officer. Rewards may be reaped and the honor and prestige that comes along with being a class offi- cer make it all worthwhile.
